What a week for Cleveland’s Jazz program!  Tuesday saw the Jazz Ensemble taking 1st Place at the PIL Jazz Festival with Cooper Headrick, Tai Friel and Tonantzin Ramirez each taking home Outstanding Soloist awards.

Saturday saw both the Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab traveling to the West Salem Jazz Festival.  Despite the long distance and even longer day, Jazz Lab tied for 1st Place in their division and Jazz Ensemble took 1st Place in the Advanced division.

Congratulations!  Your persistence and determination over the past few months have certainly paid dividends.

This Saturday (2/17) the Wind Ensemble will be working with a guest clinician (Michael Burch-Pesses from Pacific University).  The retreat will run from 9:30am-3pm, starting with sectionals and then moving to full rehearsals.  Lunch (pizza) will be provided.

The Friends of Cleveland Bands will be meeting tonight, February 5th, at 6:30pm in the band room.  Hope to see you there!

The Pep Band game scheduled for GREEN BAND on February 6 has been cancelled.

As forecasting will be starting soon for our high school students grades 9-11, here is a guide to help students figure out how to complete their forecasting for band.

Registration for Solo & Ensemble was extended to Tuesday, February 6.  I know that I approached a few more students on Friday to encourage participation.  Hopefully, I will see those registrations come through on THIS FORM by Monday evening (2/5)

The Cleveland Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the PIL League Jazz Band Contest at Roosevelt HS on Tuesday, February 6.  This event was postponed twice, so we are glad to finally get a chance to perform at this State Qualifying event.

The public is welcome to come listen at no charge.  Cleveland HS performs at 10am.

Both Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab will be travelling to West Salem HS for the West Salem Jazz Festival.
Jazz Lab performs @ 3:00pm in the gymnasium and Jazz Ensemble performs at 8:30pm in the auditorium.

We need at least one parent to travel with us, so please email Mr. Riler if you are available to be with us from noon until about 11pm.

Cleveland will be representing our community, school and PPS again.  This time we will be in the Grand Floral Parade.  There will be a need for 10-12 parent volunteers the day of that event.  We will also need volunteers to help with uniform fittings in the early Spring.  More details to come as the event approaches.

The Cleveland HS Wind Ensemble has been invited to share a concert with Portland State on June 6, 2024 (location is still TBD).  A survey was sent to our seniors, and they have committed to being available to participate in this concert.  More information will be forthcoming.
