Play-A-Thon: Friday September 27th

Come watch the Play-A-Thon live in the Cleveland High School Auditorium on Friday, September 27th from 4pm to 10pm. For those who cannot make it to be in the audience the event will also be streamed live on our website clevelandbandspdx.com.

Let’s get the fundraising out of the way now so we can focus on the music!  Please share our GoFundMe link far and wide.

Money raised via the Play-a-thon supports all aspects of the program and covers a variety of costs such as purchasing sheet music, reducing or eliminating contest entry fees, bringing in specialists to work with sectionals and small groups and much more!

Rather than charge a mandatory fee for band, Mr. Riler and the Friends of Cleveland Bands feel strongly that access should be available to all. This is why we ask friends, family and the community to support the program with tax-deductible donations that are meaningful and appropriate to them.

More Play-A-Thon Volunteers Needed!

We have less than half our our volunteer slots filled for the Play-A-Thon. This is our largest fundraiser and the funds raised support the band activities for the entire year. Please review the sign up page and see if there is anything you can help with this coming Friday.

Parent Info Night, Monday September 9th

Please join us for a Band Parent Meetup on Monday September 9th, 6:30-7pm. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow band parents, learn how the Friends of Cleveland Bands supports the program and have your questions answered about what this year will entail. Mr. Riler will also present a quick synopsis of the program and his vision around it. Cookies will be served. 

Please enter through the front of the school. We will meet in the auditorium. 

The monthly board meeting will take place after this very informational meetup. All are welcome to stay. We will be focusing on Playathon details

Handbook & Syllabus Acknowledgement

** Due by Friday 9/13 **

All students and parents/guardians will need to read through the Cleveland HS Band Handbook and the class syllabus.

The handbook is linked above, and the syllabus can be found in your child’s CANVAS page.  The Syllabus is located in the area titled “Syllabus” in the left hand column of the CANVAS page. 

Once you have read through these documents, please confirm that by completing these two google forms:

Mini Camps this week

I wanted to send one more reminder about our mini camp schedule this coming week.

Camps are opportunities for freshmen to get to know each other and our section leaders, learn some basic information about the program and start learning some of our pep band songs.

Monday, August 19
LEADERSHIP, ALL PERCUSSION & INCOMING FRESHMAN
9AM – NOON
Please bring your instrument.  You may want to bring your own water too.
Due to some fence construction on 28th by the portables, you may need to enter the building through the front doors.

Tuesday, August 20
ALL BAND STUDENTS GRADES 9-12

Annual Family Picnic & Potluck

New, current, and alumni families are invited to attend this event on Thursday, August 22 at Sellwood Park, SE 7th Ave & Miller Street,  starting at 6:00 pm. We’ll be at Picnic Site A, which is on the west side of the park, north of the tennis courts.

Please bring a dish to share according to your last name:

  • A – I: Dessert
  • J – S: Salad or Side Dish
  • T – Z: Main Dish

Friends of Cleveland Bands, our parent-led booster club, will provide plates, utensils, napkins and water. Please consider bringing your own picnic ware to minimize waste.
