Pie Pick-Up is Today!!!

Willamette Valley pies delivery is today—Monday, November 4. All orders will be available for pick-up in the cafeteria from 3:15–4:15 pm only. Please note that we have no facilities for storing frozen pies after that time. Pies that are not picked up by 4:15 pm will be donated to CHS Staff. Please contact Stephanie Shanley at sbshanley@comcast.net with questions or concerns.

Congratulations to our student salespeople. They sold a whopping 457 pies for a profit of $3800, to be credited to the costs of the individual students’ Disneyland trips.

Order New band Gear This Week!

New band merchandise is now available for order online here through Monday 11/11 only!

Friends of Cleveland Bands sells these items at cost or close to cost to keep prices affordable. This is not a fundraiser. If cost is an issue for your family, financial aid is available. Please contact Mr. Riler or our Treasurer Stacey Lovett salovett75@gmail.com to request financial aid.

Deadline to order is November 11th. Ordered items will arrive before Winter Break. Questions? Please contact our Merch Co-Chairs Linh Vu linh_t_vu@yahoo.com or Megan Thatcher mthatch37@yahoo.com.

We are also looking for large coolers to store the pies, which must be kept frozen.

Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Means jennmeans@gmail.com or Pie Fundraiser Coordinator Stephanie Shanley sbshanley@comcast.net if you can help!

2020 Disney Trip Update

We are currently sitting at 93 students and 8 adults for the trip. The next phase will be room assignments, and other organizational work. Students will be given the opportunity to request room assignments for this trip. In the end, Mr. Riler will make any adjustments necessary to fill all of the rooms.

With a consensus of admin, chaperones, and the travel company—we are officially changing the travel dates of our Disney trip to Wednesday, March 18–Saturday, March 21. Specific departure times are not available yet, but the dates are a sure change. This change saved anyone from having to find $135 to make up the difference. This was not an easy decision in some ways, but financially it became obvious.

Tuxes should be tried on in the store so any alterations that are needed can be scheduled promptly. Dresses will need to be hemmed, so these should be picked up soon also.

If you have not paid for your concert attire yet, please be sure that is done promptly. Checks or School Pay will work. Checks made out to CHS or you can find concert attire in the Band section of school pay.

Dresses are $63.
Full tuxes are $155.

We need to submit a picture of our group for the OMEA Conference performance by the first week of November, so I am planning on doing a group picture on Wednesday, October 30 during class.

A Message from the Director

As I have gone through the video of the Play-a-thon with the bands to listen to their specific performances and debrief, I am so proud of our students and the work they did that evening. I then consider all of the parents that were behind the scenes containing and feeding the masses in the music wing. Then there are the folks that planned everything and executed the GoFundMe page and the live stream without a hitch. What started as a crazy idea, has grown into an event that brings our Cleveland Band Family together and strengthens the bond between the students and the parents.

Thank you Brian Richardson for your attention to detail in making the GoFundMe campaign a success. Thank you Tammy Lewis and Craig Lewis for all of your efforts with the planning and execution of the event. Thank you Leo Lawyer for the silly videos you were willing to shoot to show your support of our program. Thank you to the entire Cleveland Band Family for all of the support that you generated. I am truly blessed to be the band director at Cleveland High School.
