Holiday Bake Sale Sign-ups Now Open!

The winter concert and bake sale is fast approaching. This is one of our most popular events of the year, and for good reason. The desserts are irresistible and one hundred percent of the proceeds go to support the band program. We hope you will join us in making this our most festive (and delicious) winter concert yet! Please go to our special sign-up page via SignUp.com or contact Brianne Williams directly to volunteer to bring goodies and/or to help set up, work the tables during intermission, or to help clean up afterwards. (Please note: Signup.com will ask you to enter your email address in order to send you an automated confirmation and event reminders, but does not require you to open an account. SignUp.com does not share your email address with anyone.)

Please contact Brianne Williams with any questions or for help signing up at bri6031@gmail.com.

Tis the Season (For Jazz)

The CHS Jazz Ensemble has a very busy week ahead of them, with not one but three performances on three consecutive days, including an evening show on Wednesday (Bridging the Gap), an all-day competition Thursday (PIL Jazz Festival), and a morning music assembly on Friday along with the Wind Symphony. Please see the calendar for details. And make sure concert attire is clean, pressed (as needed), and ready to go!

But wait, there’s more! To ring in the new year, CHS Jazz Lab combos will host a special evening of performances on Friday, January 11, in the CHS Auditorium. Light refreshments will be served.

Band Merchandise

We are waiting for the official unveiling of the new Nike branding of Cleveland High School before moving forward with our band logo design. We will take pre-orders for shirts, sweatshirts, and hats in December. More information coming soon. Thank you for your patience!

Disney Trip Planning

It might seem like a long way off, but plans for our next biennial Disneyland trip (Spring 2020) are already underway! This trip is an amazing opportunity for all marching band students. It will include three fun-filled days in Disneyland, side trips to the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Medieval Times Dinner theater, a live movie soundtrack workshop in a Disney studio, and, best of all, the entire marching band on parade down historic Main Street, Disneyland, USA. Please remember to check your email inbox and watch this space for updates, including important information about costs and financial aid options.

Sellwood Middle School Liaison

We’re still looking for a volunteer to be our middle school liaison to help us communicate with the Sellwood band community and keep our future musicians informed about events at Cleveland. All you need to do is keep an eye on the Cleveland band calendar and pass on updates for publication in the SMS newsletter and to band director Dan Arrayan. Our experience proves it: engaging kids at the middle school level ensures a successful transition to high school and jumpstarts students’ readiness to integrate and perform at the next level.

If you’re interested, please contact volunteer coordinator Jennifer Means, at jennmeans@gmail.com.

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, all bands are featured, and it’s a fun event for everyone involved. There will be plenty of opportunities for families and friends to participate. Please visit our Play-a-thon page for more information.
