I wanted to send one more reminder about our mini camp schedule this coming week.
Camps are opportunities for freshmen to get to know each other and our section leaders, learn some basic information about the program and start learning some of our pep band songs.

New, current, and alumni families are invited to attend this event on Thursday, August 22 at Sellwood Park, SE 7th Ave & Miller Street, starting at 6:00 pm. We’ll be at Picnic Site A, which is on the west side of the park, north of the tennis courts.
Please bring a dish to share according to your last name:
Friends of Cleveland Bands, our parent-led booster club, will provide plates, utensils, napkins and water. Please consider bringing your own picnic ware to minimize waste.

Thank you to all of you who helped with our annual Car Wash, or brought you car in to get washed. Friends of Cleveland Bands received close to $1500 in donations during the fundraiser.
Special thanks and recognition goes to the Burgerville next door to the parking lot who generously provided water for our event. If you have a chance to thank them when you are in the restaurant, please do so.
The next FOCB Board meeting will be August 19th at 6:30 pm. Will be meeting at a board members house since the school is not yet open. Please feel free to join our meeting and if you are interested contact info@clevelandbandspdx.com to get the meeting location details
The annual Cleveland Bands Car Wash Fundraiser will take place this Saturday, August 10 in the Cleveland High School Parking Lot (on SE 26th Ave at Powell).
Date: Saturday August 10th, 2024.
Time: 11 am to 3 pm
Location: 3400 SE 26th Ave. In the parking lot across from the front entrance of the school.
Bring your car to Cleveland High School and follow the signs and directions into the lot. You should see our band students waving signs on Powell to help you find us.
The cost of the wash is whatever you choose to donate to the Cleveland Band program. Payments may be made in cash or by credit card by scanning a QR code.

We still need more volunteers to make the Car Wash on August 10th a success, especially from parents.
This fundraiser supports our band with numerous financial needs. Please help make this event a success by signing up to volunteer your time or bring supplies – we need LOTS of student and adult volunteers.

Lots of help will be needed and we’ll be in touch later this summer to recruit both student and parent volunteers to wash cars, direct traffic, provide snacks, and handle other needs. Kristy Oliver (volunteer coordinator) – one the most important positions for me! Volunteers make my job quite a bit easier, and I thank you for staying on top of all of the events and encouraging volunteerism in our broader band community.
Congratulations to all of our seniors for the leadership and work ethic that you provided this year. You have helped take the Cleveland Band program to heights it has never before attained. Many of you were outstanding role models for our upcoming leaders and your legacy will continue because of that. Be sure to come back and visit, it is always great to see you again, and hear how things are going!
I would like to thank all of the families in our Cleveland Band Family! Your efforts to encourage your young musician at home and to volunteer where you can have been integral in the success of our program as a whole. I would also like to thank all of you that contributed to my gift that was presented to me in our June FOCB board meeting. I am always stunned and humbled by the heartwarming comments and the financial gift. It is a pleasure to serve this community and I am so thankful that I landed here in 2015 to witness a transformation of a program in so many ways (community, musicianship, confidence, leadership and more) from that day to now.
Our new student leadership team has an amazing vision and awesome plans for next year that I believe will continue to strengthen and build the community that we already have. Reaching out to our incoming 8th graders over the summer, continuing to build a bridge to our young band communities in Hosford and Sellwood and sharing our musical talents around the broader community. The challenges of COVID continue to affect our numbers and our instrumentation, but we are now seeing a wave of students from the post-pandemic era this fall with over 50 freshmen coming into the program. With the leadership we have in place, I believe that the bar that has been set in this program will continue to be attainable.
I wish you all a fantastic summer. Hopefully we have plenty of students taking advantage of the many music camp opportunities and also getting some much deserved rest. I look forward to another fantastic school year next fall. Until then….

We have 120 uniforms that need to be washed before the end of the school year. We are looking for 12 parents to take 10 uniforms each for machine washing.
Mr. Riler will have them available for pick up during the school day on June 10th and 11th. They need to be returned to the band room by 3pm on June 13th.
Washing instructions are provided on the sign up page, and of course you are more than welcome to sign up for more than one slot!! Thank you so much for your support.
