Play-a-thon 2020 Event Coordinator Needed!

The Play-a-thon is the band program’s biggest fundraiser! It is extremely important that we start the year with a solid team. We currently have a Live Stream Operator and Fundraising Chair (GoFundMe and donations manager, etc.) in place for fall 2020 but still need one important part of the team. We are looking for an Event Coordinator! The Event Coordinator’s duties include:

  • Works with Hospitality Chair to plan menu and logistics for serving dinner, snacks, and water to all participating band students throughout the evening
  • Works with Communications Chair, making sure the event is well advertised in the Band‘s weekly newsletters, social media sites, outside promotion (local news), Enews etc.
  • Manages parent chaperones throughout the Play-a-thon evening, trouble-shooting as needed; working with chaperones to block off restricted areas of the school, etc.
  • Arranges for borrowed tables and chairs (from CHS) to be available and set-up for the event, then returned at the end of the evening
  • Arrange for movies and DVD players to be run throughout the event in the student hang-out room(s)
  • Arrange contact with vendors to provide gift cards for participating students (Dutch Bros in the past)
  • Works alongside Livestream Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, and FOCB to support their efforts for a successful event

Instrument/Music Recovery

There is one more chance to recover instrument and/or music out of the band room for students this Friday, April 3 from 10:30–11:15am. Mr. Riler will be wearing protective gloves and a mask for precautionary measures. He will deliver the instruments to the curb on 28th Ave near the portables. Please do not enter or even come near the building. Wait at the curb.

Please have your student fill out this google form to let Mr.Riler know what to bring out.

Band Virtual Meetings –4/2

Keep in mind students are not required to “attend” these meetings. Mr. Riler just wants to make himself available to chat and answer any immediate questions students might have—he would love to be able to just say hi to all the students.

An invite to the meeting can be found on Google Classroom. Go to the Google Calendar under Classwork tab to find it.

Jazz Ensemble – 10:30–11:00 am
Jazz Lab – 11:15–11:45 am
Percussion – 12:30–1:00 pm
Concert Band – 1:15–1:45 pm
Symphonic Band – 2:00–2:30 pm
Wind Symphony – 2:45–3:15 pm

Student PPS Emails

This is a request that all Cleveland Band parents encourage their students to get familiar with and check their PPS assigned emails regularly. Emails have been sent through google classroom and synergy, which only send to PPS emails.

The two most important things for students to do in the next few days is to subscribe to a couple online platforms (Codes are supplied for these in Google Classroom, and they are free).

Sight Reading Factory

With everyone having to settle in at home, students should make it to google classroom to get signed up for Sight-Reading Factory. This is a great place to practice and improve reading skills. It will also be the platform that will be used for the sight-reading portion of the WIND SYMPHONY AUDITION.

Wind Symphony Auditions due on Friday, March 20

Message From: Mr. Riler

This is just a reminder that Wind Symphony Auditions are due on Friday, March 20.

If you are having any technical issues, please let me know ASAP.

I would like to see videos for your auditions. If this is not feasible, I would like a parent to be willing to authenticate the audio recordings. I have had questionable audio recordings in the past, and need to be sure everyone is involved in making sure I am hearing a student’s audition.

I am working on a way to create a sight-reading assessment online…stay tuned.

Hang in there everyone!!
