Disney Trip Meeting & Update

All participants and at least on parent are required to meet on Wednesday, March 11, 6:00 pm. There will be a great deal of information provided, as well as materials handed out.  We will not have a second meeting, so it is essential that at least one parent and the student are in attendance.

EDT (the travel company that is handling our tour to LA) has been closely monitoring the situation, currently, the CDC doesn’t consider our destination, as with most, to be a “Watch Level” and there are no warnings or advisories discouraging people from traveling there. This is a fluid situation that they will continue to monitor and share information with us as it becomes available. Attached is company statement from EDT president.

FOCB Treasurer Needed!

As mentioned last week, a number of key positions in the Friends of Cleveland Bands organization will be opening up next year as seniors graduate and take their parents with them. The Treasurer volunteer position, one of the most important jobs, needs to be filled ASAP so that this year’s talented Treasurer can offer information and training to get you started. She estimates this job takes around 1 hour per week and is done almost entirely from home. The Treasurer position is a 2 year commitment.

Spring Festival and Bake Sale

It’s hard to believe this year’s Spring Festival band concert is practically upon us (Wednesday, March 11)! Time to start planning dessert! In addition to replenishing precious glucose in both musicians and audience members, the bake sale supports our students by funding everyday necessities such as sheet music, instrument repairs, visiting clinicians, and so much more!

You can sign up to bring goodies and to help set up, work the tables during intermission, and help clean up afterwards here. (Please note that Sign Up Genius does not require an account. Just enter your email address, choose your contribution, and SignUp.com will send you an automated confirmation and reminders.) Questions or concerns? Please contact Heidi Guite at nguite@aol.com.

Cleveland Solo And Ensemble Musicians Shine At PIL

A huge round of applause for our courageous solo and ensemble musicians who performed at Saturday’s PIL competition. Participation in this event is an accomplishment and an honor and every student who performed deserves recognition. You can find the day’s results here » Mr. Riler will have adjudicator’s sheets available on Monday (today).

If anyone has photos and videos of the day to share, please upload them to the band’s google photos folder »

Chamber Music Concert This Thursday

Come hear our small chamber ensembles this Thursday, February 27 at 7:00 pm before they perform at this year’s upcoming PIL Solo and Ensemble Contest (Saturday, February 29 at Wilson HS). This evening marks the only opportunity for our chamber groups to run through their music in front of a live audience; experience shows that learning to play through nerves is an important part of their preparation! There will be a reception with refreshments to follow.

PIL Solo and Ensemble Schedule

View the finalized schedule for this Saturday’s event. Participants should arrive 45 minutes before scheduled performance time to find room, warm up, and be in performance room 10 minutes before performance.

Students need their own transportation. They are encouraged to come and support each other as long as they can, but they can come and go as they need to. You can find the link to the participant information here.
