OSU Festival Recap

Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble for their performance at the OSU HS Band Festival on Monday, 2/27.  Despite the severe disruption to their rehearsal schedule caused by the storm, they proceeded to do a wonderful job on stage.  They received state qualifying scores from all three judges – an incredible testament to the musicianship and dedication that this group has!!

We have a busy week!

  • Monday (2/27) – Wind Ensemble to OSU during school, with a return time of 6pm
  • Tuesday (2/28) – Symphonic Band Eve Rehearsal (6:30-8:30pm)
  • Wednesday (3/1) – GREEN Pep Band (GOLD welcome to join) 5:45pm call time.  Boys BBall 1st round playoff game in the Cleveland gym.
  • Thursday (3/2) – Chamber Music Workshop (see email from Mr. Riler)
  • Friday (3/3) – Symphonic Band to Warner Pacific during school
  • Saturday (3/4) – PIL Solo & Ensemble (PDF Schedule available here)

With weather still a concern, Mr. Riler is urging all families to be subscribed to the band calendar.

Upcoming Volunteer Needs

We need volunteers for the following dates.  Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Kristy Oliver, at volunteer.coordinator@clevelandbandspdx.com:

  • Mar. 3rd – Symphonic Band at Warner Pacific
    • 1 more chaperone needed to accompany group to WPU (in-town)
  • Mar. 4th – Solo and Ensemble Coordinator
    • Cleveland will be hosting the PIL Solo & Ensemble contest and we need many volunteers to help make this event a success! Please sign up here.

Chamber Music Concert – Cancelled

As the wintery weather has cut into planned rehearsal times, Mr. Riler would like to give the musicians extra time to work with clinicians prior to the PIL Solo & Ensemble contest.  This rehearsal will be in lieu of the previously planned concert.

See Mr. Riler’s email for full details

Solo & Ensemble Coordinator Needed!

On Saturday, March 4th, Cleveland will be hosting the PIL Solo and Ensemble contest. While the students organize most of the logistics of the day, FOCB will be providing hospitality during the event as well as a few key volunteer roles. We are searching for a parent volunteer who would be able to coordinate efforts that day.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • planning session with Hospitality and Volunteer Coordinator to determine menu and volunteer needs
  • ensure all volunteer roles are identified and work with Volunteer Coordinator to fill them through a sign-up genius
  • be on site the day of the event
  • order and arrange delivery of pizza lunch for volunteers
  • order and arrange delivery of sandwich lunch for judges
  • drinks and snack availability

If you’re interested, please email volunteer.coordinator@clevelandbandspdx.com

Finals Recital / Solo & Ensemble

The recitals in all of the classes were EXCELLENT!  I am very proud of all of the students who most definitely put great effort into preparing their pieces.

Every last ensemble with a month more of preparation would do an OUTSTANDING job at Solo & Ensemble on March 4th.  Students should strongly consider REGISTERING.  The cost to participate is $o.oo (free), and students will receive a short clinic from a well-respected music educator to help them continue to improve their ensemble skills.
