Students performing solos for Solo & Ensemble should have confirmed a piano accompanist by now. There are FIVE districts holding Solo & Ensemble the same exact day, which will be a strain on all of our accompanists in the Portland Metro Area.
If you need assistance finding an accompanist, here are my RECOMMENDATIONS.
The Wind Ensemble had an incredible clinic with Mary Lou Boderman (retired/Salem Keizer School District).
She brought several “next level” approaches to our music that should help us really refine our festival set for OSU and PIL.
Carloyn Talarr from PYP reached out to me asking if we would like to have a couple brass professors come visit Cleveland on Monday, February 6th. I jumped at the chance, and we will have Jeff Scott (French Horn) and Roy Poper (Trumpet) from Oberlin working with our students in the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. Unfortunately, they could not make it to the school until after lunch…sorry Symphonic Band.
Jazz Night was the final for Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab.
All other classes are performing all or part of their chamber music pieces in a recital format during class.
Congratulations to the following students who will participate in the All-City Band this coming Friday and Saturday:
The performance will take place in the Cleveland HS Auditorium on Saturday, with the doors opening at 2:15pm and the concert starting at 2:30pm.
Our Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab will be presenting several great jazz charts on Thursday, January 19th. The concert will start at 7pm in the Cleveland HS auditorium.

Gold Pep Band kicks things off this Friday vs. Grant. Call time is 5:45pm.
The Wind Ensemble will have the privilege of working with Mary Lou Boderman on Saturday, January 21st from 9:30am-12:30pm, as we start to refine our work on our first competitive set of the year. Mary Lou is a highly respected band director who recently retired after being the music supervisor in the Salem-Keizer School District for the last 8 years.
Please be aware that if you are signed up to go to San Francisco that your final payment will be occurring this month. Flight and itinerary info should be coming to all travelers in the very near future.
