The PPS All-City Honor Band will be hosted at Cleveland HS and 24 Cleveland band students will be participating!!
The event starts Friday morning April 8th and the concert will be Saturday, April 9th. Here is a link with all of the pertinent information.
Students in Symphonic and Concert Band (including percussionists for those bands) were handed permission slips for the band’s trip to West Linn HS on Thursday, April 21st.
Those will be due Tuesday, April 5th. Please look for those if you have not seen one yet. Here is a link to the Band Website page called “Docs & Forms” with digital versions of the permission slip AND the letter/itinerary. You will need to scroll down to find them.
Three parent volunteers are needed to ride the bus and spend the day at West Linn High School on Thursday, April 21. Volunteers must have a background check and COVID vaccination on file with the district, which can be completed here.
As the band prepares their music for the OSAA State Band Championships, Mr. Riler have enlisted a fantastic resource to work with them this Friday, April 1st for a scheduled evening rehearsal from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Stuart Welsh is the band director at West Albany High School. They have won the 5A Championship several times, and placed in the top 5 of the 6A division a couple times when they were in the 6A division. He has done “Enigma” with his band at West Albany (that is who Mr. Riler borrowed the music from). He is an incredible educator, and we can’t wait to watch him work with our ensemble.
The students did a great job in the reading session, and Mr. Riler believes with some sectional work, this clinic, and familiarizing themselves with the piece (listening to recordings), they will have a wonderful set for STATE!

Reminder that PPS Honor Band is next week, April 8–9. Students should have all of the music in their possession ASAP. A lot of students have received it Friday before Spring Break.
The Cleveland HS Wind Symphony will be performing at the PIL League High School Band Festival on Tuesday, March 15th. This event will be at McDaniel HS all morning, and into the early afternoon. At this event, the highest scoring Superior group will receive an automatic bid into the State Band Championships. View Letter & Itinerary »
Congratulations to the Cleveland HS Jazz Ensemble! They placed 2nd at the Clackamas Jazz Festival in the 6A division!! Battle Ground HS got 1st, Grant placed 3rd. A great showing for the PIL, and the Cleveland Jazz Ensemble continues to improve.
Today (Monday, March 7th), the Wind Symphony is travelling to Oregon State. Information can be found at this link (including itinerary and schedule).
Update to Event Covid Policy
OSU is no longer requiring proof of vaccination or medical documentation showing a negative covid test within three days of our event, effective immediately. Masking will still be required of all attendees unless they are actively playing. Any audience members coming to watch the performance will NOT be required to present proof of vaccination or medical documentation of a negative test in order to enter LaSells. However, if a student and/or potential audience member is sick or exhibiting COVID-like symptoms, they should not attend the festival.
Car Parking on Campus
Regular passenger cars can park in the paid areas of the Reser Stadium parking lot or the parking garage on 26th St. Anyone parking in these areas will need to PAY TO PARK; there are no free parking areas on campus for regular cars.
